Milton is located in southern Ontario, Canada just 43 km (27 mi) west of central Toronto and is part of Halton Regional Municipality. Milton's economy was traditionally based on agriculture, but by the end of the 20th century it had become more industrialized. Industrialization was due largely to the town's location in the Greater Toronto Area and its accessibility to the northern United States.
Milton Ontario has numerous transportation links, including several major highways and the Canadian National and Canadian Pacific railways, which serve the town's commercial and industrial needs. Manufactures include auto parts, steel recycling, and aerospace and telecommunications equipment.
Tourism is also an important industry. Milton is served by Toronto's Lester B. Pearson International Airport and by the Hamilton International Airport. Milton offers many opportunities for recreation, particularly in the Niagara Escarpment.
